Who we are
Organized, led, and facilitated by researchers in the Anthropology and Botany departments at the California Academy of Sciences, this group works together with researchers, Indigenous scientists, practitioners and educators across disciplines to conduct research aimed at integrating multiple ways of knowing (braided science) to address issues in museum science, historical ecology, archaeology, botany, and conservation.
By taking a braided science approach we acknowledge the importance of socio-ecological systems and apply a holistic view to address research questions.
When working with ancestral communities and partners, we are committed to ensuring this research is a true collaboration that directly serves those communities, supports their goals, and honors their sovereignty over their eco-cultural knowledge.
